Capturing the Soul of Africa

I am a fine art wildlife photographer based in South Africa, drawn to the raw beauty and quiet drama of the African bush. By removing colour, I aim to focus on form, light and emotion, revealing the character and soul of each subject.

My work celebrates the big cats, elephants, rhinos, zebras and giraffes that make this continent extraordinary. Each image is crafted to stand as a timeless piece of art, printed to order on archival fine art paper.

Craig Ryan Jones was born and raised in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, where he began his career as a photography student before moving into the music industry and later moved to Johannesburg to work for a multinational record company. He subsequently established his own label, working with South African artists while deepening his appreciation for Africa, its cultures and its wildlife.

Craig later moved with his family to Europe in 2008, where he lived for more than 17 years, primarily in Switzerland, Denmark and regular trips back to South Africa. During that time, he established a professional photography business spanning a range of styles and genres. Alongside his commercial work, he built an extensive portfolio of the natural world, photographed across Europe and the wilds of Africa.

In late 2024, he and his wife decided it was time to move back home to Africa. Being back in South Africa has given Craig the opportunity to do what he loves most, by photographing African wildlife, as often as possible.

Craig lives with his wife and their cats in Cape Town, South Africa.

New Collection – The Allure of Africa

Craig has just launched his new collection, entitled "The Allure of Africa and Its Wildlife".

"In this collection, I hope to have captured the majesty and vulnerability of these animals. In Africa, light is not merely seen; it is felt. Every sunrise, shadow and wild moment tells a story. Working in stark black and white allows me to reveal the heart and essence of each animal."
